Turning the Minority into a Majority

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009   |   Uncategorized.

Environmental Leader posted a study that just came out from the Natural Marketing Institute, which claims that 30% of Americans have heard of carbon offsets. Of those, only 9% have actually purchased carbon offsets in the last year!

Part of our mission at BeGreen has always been to educate people about climate change and give them simple solutions to combat it. Carbon offsets are one of those simple solutions. By investing in “climate friendly” projects that reduce or avoid CO2 emissions, we help slow global warming. These projects can include planting trees, which actually absorb existing CO2, as well as renewable energy, methane capture, energy efficiency, and other projects that avoid CO2.

By matching up your actual carbon footprint with the same amount of carbon offsets, they balance out to net zero. And that’s the goal – to have zero impact on the Earth, leaving it at least as good as you found it for future generations.

When you buy carbon offsets, you’re saying that you want your children to inherit a clean, healthy and diverse environment. You’re voting with your dollars for cleaner energy, more forests, and less wastefulness. And, far from being an easy way to assuage guilt, buying carbon offsets shows that you’re serious about slowing climate change.

BeGreen is working every day to grow the number of people who know about carbon offsets. Join us today in spreading the word! Here are some ways to help:
