Green Mountain’s Solar Buy-Back Program

Monday, May 11th, 2009   |   Headlines.

Guess what? Big news! We launched a solar buy-back program this week for our Green Mountain Energy electricity customers in Texas. What’s more, it’s not just any buy-back program – we will pay the FULL retail rate for up to 500 kWh of excess energy generated by your system, and 50% of the retail rate thereafter. If you’re a Texan with solar panels, you know the sorry state of so-called “net metering” programs here. Well, we’re out to change that. Green Mountain believes this is the first buy-back program of its kind, and certainly a great reason to switch to Green Mountain Energy if you haven’t already.

Here’s what you have to do to participate:

  • Have an interconnection agreement in place with your Texas Delivery Service Provider (TDSP)
  • Have a meter installed by their TDSP that separately measures the in-flow and out-flow of electricity to and from your home
  • Be enrolled on Green Mountain’s Renewable Rewards Product, which is 100%Wind and requires no term commitment
  • Complete, sign and return Green Mountain’s application form and agreement to participate

Texas residents interested in finding out more information about Renewable Rewards or signing up can call 866-473-3689 or visit www.greenmountain.com/renewablerewards.

P.S. – If you have another type of distributed generation facility, like your own wind turbine, you can join Renewable Rewards too. It’s not just for solar people!
