Our Projects
BeGreen maintains a portfolio of carbon offset projects that produce real, additional, and verifiable emissions reductions. Read on for more information about different offset technologies that we support.
Renewable Energy
As part of Green Mountain Energy, we know renewables. BeGreen offers a wide range of renewable energy credits from wind, biomass, hydro, and solar sources. In fact, Green Mountain as a whole has helped build over 35 new wind and solar facilities across the country to date. Our largest facility is the Brazos Wind Farm in west Texas, which has a total capacity of 160 MW. That’s enough to power over 42,000 homes for a year!
Forest Sequestration
Planting and protecting trees actually helps reduce the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere, while also benefiting local ecosystems. BeGreen has partnered with American Forests and the Pacific Forest Trust to help our customers support forestry projects in several US states. For example, the Van Eck Forest Project in Mendocino County, California protects valuable redwood forests that might otherwise be diminished over time.
Methane Capture
Methane is a greenhouse gas with 21 times the heat-trapping power of carbon dioxide. Agricultural, landfill, and wastewater facilities can capture and use methane instead of letting it escape into the atmosphere. Methane capture is a relatively uncommon technology on farms and landfills, but the voluntary offset market can help it grow. BeGreen supports methane capture projects that have been certified under standards like the Voluntary Carbon Standard and the California Climate Action Registry.
